Darjeeling - Gangtok - Lachung - Pelling - Kalimpong
Gangtok is the capital city of Sikkim, the second smallest state of India. Famous for its monasteries, and picturesque views of the Himalayas, Gangtok is among the important hill station of the country. In Gangtok offers smooth blend of both tradition and modernity. Located 1547 m above sea level, Gangtok has some important Buddhist religious sites as well. The unspoilt natural beauty, peaceful Chortens or Stupas, and old monasteries make it a truly unique travelling experience Visiting Banzakhri Falls, Handicraft Centre, Flower show, Dro-dul Chorten & Institute of Tibetology (maximum 3-4 hours).
Lachung is about 110 kms from Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, the road passes through some of the most beautiful but difficult terrain in sikkim full of picturesque waterfalls and great views. A Tibetan village with a unique local and traditional self-government body called the Zumsa, Lachung is situated at an altitude of 9000ft.
Darjeeling the dream land of the East, it has been a popular hill station since the British period. The tourist flow to this place has been increasing day by day. Darjeeling is surrounded by lofty mountains. Except for the monsoon months and if weather is clear then the Kanchenjunga peak can be seen. The toy train coming from Siliguri is something which is liked by the elders and the children equally. The real fun in coming to Darjeeling is on the toy train. It takes six to seven hours to cover a distance of 82kms and the slow speed gives you enough time to watch and appreciate the beauty which nature has provided it. This train passes through the Forests, waterfalls, over deep valleys and through the mountains and tunnels.
Kalimpong has become an important tourist destination owing to its temperate climate and proximity to popular tourist locations in the region. It is famous for its flower market, especially the wide array of orchids. Other attractions include Buddhist monasteries including the Zang Dhok Palri Phodang - known for its rare Tibetan Buddhist scriptures, churches. Kalimpong is home to Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje - 17th Karmapa. Kalimpong is also known for its traditional handicrafts. Although not many travelers bother to visit Kalimpong, there's enough here to keep you occupied for a couple of days, and for the energetic there's some good trekking and river-rafting in the river Teesta.
